TerraCycle
produces a powerful, organic, eco-friendly plant food that is the first mass-produced product in the world to be packaged in used plastic soda bottles. To go even further, the entire product is made out of garbage - from the contents to the packaging. As a result, TerraCycle Plant Food is the first mass-produced consumer product to have a negative environmental footprint.
TerraCycle's process uses organic garbage that would be destined for landfills, and through a revolutionary process developed by the company's founders, at Princeton University, converts it to organic liquid plant food in only three weeks.
Proven at Rutgers University to outperform the chemical alternatives, TerraCycle Plant Food is more than simply environmentally friendly - TerraCycle's products are environmentally beneficial, from production to application.
TerraCycle collects its used soda bottles by conducting environmental fundraisers at hundreds of elementary schools across the United States. Each school conducts a three week event where they collect 20 fluid ounce soda bottles that are then cleaned and used as the packaging. TerraCycle has also partnered with numerous recycling centers as a source of these used bottles.
TerraCycle Plant Food can be sprayed or misted directly onto houseplants, lawns, and gardens. It is also applied in mass agricultural settings, distributed through the existing irrigation facilities of farms, vineyards, even golf courses and parks.
Eco-beneficial production
The TerraCycle production process is not just environmentally friendly, but environmentally beneficial, producing a product that is made entirely out of trash.

About TerraCycle
Company History: Corporate Culture Meets Student Passion
TerraCycle was founded in 2001 with an entrepreneurial drive to pursue a financially viable market opportunity with an ecological and social conscience. The concept behind the company was inspired by "The Worm Project," an idea conceived by two Princeton University students.
After qualifying as a finalist in the Princeton University Business Plan Contest, company founder Tom Szaky was determined to turn The Worm Project into reality. Committing his own time, energy, and money into the effort, Tom sought to develop a prototype of the TerraCycling equipment, and demonstrate his own proof-of-concept - by reprocessing solid waste from dining halls at Princeton University. By the end of the summer experiment, the method had reduced the time to recycle waste from 1 year to 14 days, and slashed the space requirement from 20 acres to half an acre.
What began as a unique approach to waste management quickly gave birth to the creation of a wholly organic end-product that was superior to existing fertilizer products, simply through the natural benefits of vermiculture. And TerraCycle was born. Initially launched as a student venture, TerraCycle continues to be driven by the energy of a young team of entrepreneurs with a passion for social and ecological awareness. At the same time, the company is backed by a seasoned team of executives and advisors with Fortune 500 and global consulting expertise.
TerraCycle's diverse, multi-cultural, inter-generational foundation reflects a fresh, open approach to its business - balancing environmental enthusiasm with corporate reality. The company, along with its process of TerraCycling, ties commerce and convenience with the merits of environmentalism - introducing a new concept of "Environmental Capitalism" that enables anyone to make a positive change on the environment, in their community...or simply on their own front lawn.
