Amaranth - Elephant Head

Bright red pendulant spikes have much the texture of the finest chenille. Blooms over a long window, making stunning cut flowers or a magnificent border. 3-5’ tall

Bells of Ireland Moluccella laevis 2-3 ft.

Tender Annual/Reseeding. This aromatic, old-fashioned, showy garden flower from the mint family has long stems covered with green, soft, bell-like blooms. Adds contrast in the garden and produces a captivating cut or dried flower. Refrigerate seed for a week prior to planting. Sow 1 seed per inch directly into soil as soon as ground can be worked in the spring. Light is necessary for germination. Tamp seeds in prepared garden soil. Prefers cooler climates. A cheery garden companion, these lovely orange/yellow flowers bloom profusely from spring until frost. They have been used in medicinal salves for centuries. Edible flowers add color to salads and make a great cake decoration.

Easiest to direct seed when danger of frost has passed. Germinates best in cool, moist weather. For earlier flowers, start plants indoors 4-6 weeks before the last frost and transplant when danger of frost has passed. Pick flowers at peak of bloom. Cut off dead flowers for continuous blooming.

Cosmos

Showy flowers are a single whorl of soft white petals edged with bright rosy pinks. A multitude of blooms starts in mid-summer continuing on throughout the fall. Its feathery foliage fills the plants from bottom to top creating a bushy look. Grows well in all types of soil but needs full sun for best results. Direct seed 1/8-1/4" deep, at a minimum of 6" spacing, and maximum of 18". Start as transplants 4-6 weeks before planting date.

Purple Coneflower - Echinacea purpurea 2-3 ft.

The easiest of the Echinaceas to grow, the rose-purple, daisy-like flowers have burnt orange centers. Blooms from July to September and makes a long-lasting cut flower. As a medicinal, it is said to stimulate growth of blood cells and enhance the immune system. 2-3 ft. plant with 3 in. flowers. Perennial.

Salvia - Marble Arch

Unusual 2-2 1/2 ft ornamental whose upper flora bracts display gorgeous flags of color in intense deep purple, indigo-blue, rose pink, and white. Bracts, being leaves and not petals, will remain colorful all summer and well into fall. Salvia will perform best if grown in well-drained soil above 65°F. Will tolerate part shade and poor soils. Sweet Willaim - Volcano

Jerusalem Lemon Gold Sunflowers

Full sprays of distinctive, lemony 4-6" flowers on multi-branched plants. Several growers gave this hybrid the highest rating for marketability, productivity, and long vase-life. 4-5’ tall. Best direct seeded but can also be transplanted.
