Many people are obsessed with their lawns. This obsession can make people can behave in bizarre ways, from cutting grass on their hands and knees with fine manicuring scissors, to planting individual grass seeds in microclimates around the yard. It’s serious stuff for many people. And why not. For many people the land around their house is their first and best place to interact with nature these days. Why not make it a safe, beautiful place for people and wildlife and have a lot of fun doing it?
Unfortunately, in the race to have the best lawn on the block, the greenest golf course or park, we've dumped tonnes of toxic chemicals onto the land for nearly a century now and we're reaping the harvest of that chemical pollution in increased health care costs, increased costs to filter our water and a degraded environment all around. Chemically altered lawn landscapes can have harmful effects on the plants and animals in your yard, as well as the health of your friends and family. Song birds and bees are disappearing at an alarming rate due to this insideous environmental problem. I won't even get into the air pollution, noise pollution and consumption of gasoline and petrol chemicals that goes on.
At Dirt Works we want to help you create safe lawns, gardens and home landscapes without chemical pesticides and synthetic fertilizers - and then you can show the rest of the world your handiwork! Not only that you can feel truly good about sending the kids and pets out to run through the sprinkler and play in the yard knowing that they are safe and happy in a beautiful place. It's the way the earth was meant to be.
Many cities and towns have banned “synthetic” pesticides, and many lawn services have already rid their lawn programs of "lawn steroids". Starting with the best grass seed like the ones we sell and using all the fine organic fertilizer products we offer you can create a safe, healthy environment at home without having to be an expert or working any harder at it than some one using synthetic products that damage the environment.
All of our grass seed comes directly from the seed mill to you. It comes right off the train and gets mixed to a precise specification, as advertised, and it gets shipped right to you. No glossy packaging or hype. Just good quality, pure grass seed with no Genetically Modified Organisms or synthetic treatments. Shop our list below.

It occurred to me that you might like to see a lawn that was planted and maintained using the some of the products from this site.
The pictures here are of my lawn at Dog Team Road in early spring after the first mowing. You may be surprised to know that, I let the Clover, Creeping Charlie and other, so called weeds, participate in the community of plants that is a lawn.
Clover, Birdsfoot Trefoil, Alfalfa, Creeping Charlie or Ground Ivy, all contribute nitrogen to the soil and reduce the need for fertilizer inputs.
Control of these plants is done by proper mowing methods. I try to get the dandelions before they go to seed heads but, don't worry too much as, the bees need them in the early spring when nothing else is flowering and the winter stores at the hive are used up.
During the growing season, I fertilize using the Neptune's Harvest products and the occasional broken bag of organic fertilizer that pops up here sometimes.
In the spring, I sometimes have to mow more than once a week.

Some organic grains are in short supply this year due to a few emerging problems. The biofuels industry is competeing with land otherwise used for planting of food crops.
Emerging markets in Africa and Asia are putting s strain on supply and crop failures of already scarce crops are a problem too.
GMO crops are contaminating some farmer's lands and the corporations are tying them up in court preventing them from producing new seed. Download By Clicking Here
Whenever possible we are substituting non-GMO, untreated conventional seeds on our pages where you would ordinarily find organic seed.
